i used to love plane rides...

i suppose this was less of a plane ride and more of a plane journey. we left seattle at noon and got on our 9 hour flight to amsterdam.

i thought it would be fun. watch some movies. watch the clouds. yeah, no. i was sick and restless and mesha wasn't a whole lot fonder of it either. it was the longest flight ever, but it eventually ended, and we were in amsterdam!! not really, but we looked out the airport window and saw amsterdam! we wandered around in the airport and saw many many much wooden shoes and tulips. i bought some naturopathic dutch drugs that are used to help with malaria? and we mentally prepared ourselves to board the next flight to madrid.

this flight wasn't nearly as bad, probably since it was only 3 1/2 hours long. and then we landed in madrid! our trip has finally begun! crap. that means we have to find our way from the airport to the hostel we had previously booked, with little to no spanish knowledge and no internet in the airport? oh, wait, there it is. but who on earth knows how to use it? FUN! it actually wasn't extremely horrible (but i felt like crap and couldn't stop coughing) and we made it from the airport to the center of madrid by metro. i love the metro. more on that later.

after a few hours of wandering the streets of madrid with our packs, we found a the madrid tourist office and they pointed us in the right direction. then we found MAD hostel! the receptionist gave us a couple crazy watch keys and we made our way to our room and realized you needed a masters in the knowledge of right and left to open the door. who's ever seen a watch key? not me. we got inside (with some help) and i collapsed on my bed.

mesha eventually convinced me to venture out with her for dinner, but even that took most of my energy. we ate at an italian pizza place? true story. that's all we could find and i was too weak to continue. all i need is a good night's sleep i think. more exploring madrid tomorrow. and DEFINATELY more pictures, i promise.
